What makes AI UGC legal to use
Nothing about generating a video with AI is illegal in itself. The same rules that apply to any ad apply here: the content must not be deceptive, must not infringe someone else's rights, and must respect the policies of the platform where it runs. If your AI UGC video shows your own product, uses a synthetic person rather than a real one, and makes only claims you can back up, you are on solid ground in most markets.
On Kreavo, the AI influencer is a generated character, not a scan of a real individual, and the product shown is your own uploaded product composited into the scene. That covers two of the three main risk areas by design.
Where you need to be careful
- Likeness: never generate a video that imitates a real celebrity, creator, or private person without written consent.
- Trademarks and copyrights: only use product images, logos, and music you own or have licensed.
- Claims: an AI presenter saying a product cures, guarantees, or outperforms something is held to the same advertising standards as a human saying it.
- Disclosure: several platforms ask for a label on realistic AI-generated media; some countries are adding similar rules.
- Fake reviews: presenting a synthetic person as a genuine customer review can breach consumer-protection rules in many jurisdictions.
Platform rules move faster than laws
TikTok, Meta, YouTube, and Amazon each publish their own policies on AI-generated content, and they update them regularly. A practice that was fine last quarter may now require a label or a specific setting in the ads manager. Treat the platform's current policy page as the source of truth, not a summary you read elsewhere, and re-check it whenever you launch a new campaign.
A safe workflow for AI UGC ads
- Use a generated AI influencer or a custom character you built, never a real person's face.
- Upload your own product photos so the video shows what customers actually receive.
- Write the script from claims you can prove, the same way you would brief a human creator.
- Turn on any AI-content label the platform offers when the video shows a realistic synthetic person.
- Keep the video as an ad or demo, not as a disguised customer review.
This is general guidance, not legal advice. If you operate in a regulated category such as health, finance, or products for minors, ask a lawyer who knows your market before scaling.
